8:28 | Verse T-Shirt
THE MOMENT
This comes in the middle of a conversation about suffering. Paul writes about pain, waiting, weakness, and moments when people don't even know what to pray. He doesn't pretend those experiences are good or easy. Instead, he points toward what God can still be doing when circumstances are anything but good.
LOOK CLOSER
The Greek word translated “works together” is synergeō. It means to work together or cooperate toward something. It's the word that eventually gave English synergy. The individual pieces aren't being called good. The focus is on what they can become together in God's hands.
IF SOMEONE ASKS…
You don't need a perfect explanation. Maybe this verse matters to you because…
- You need room to call something hard hard without giving up hope.
- It reminds you that “good” doesn't mean every circumstance itself is good.
- You like the idea that pieces that make no sense alone can still become part of something meaningful.
- You're somewhere in the middle of the story and can't see what all the pieces are doing yet.
- You want to remember that hope and honesty about pain can exist at the same time.
Or maybe your reason is entirely your own.
THE VERSE
"We know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.""
